Training process
Each dog is different. Some dogs learn this training very fast, some take a long time. Don’t give up if the dog doesn’t get it the first time. Some dogs learn from a mentor dog, some really don’t like a mentor dog. Some dogs will follow a person or other team, some won’t.
Basic driving commands
Pull: Start Pulling.
Gee or Right: Direction Command.
Haw or Left: Direction Command.
Over (Left/Right): Move over to the left or right and keep going (used when passing oncoming trail users).
Haw Come: Turn left and come back past me (u-turn).
Wait/Hold: Wait, stop, stay.
Whoooaaa: Slow down, preparing to stop.
STOP: The most important command.
Easy: Go slower.
Hike: Go fast.
Hup! Hup!: Go faster.
On-By: Go on past the distraction.
Leave it!: Don’t.
Walk: Useful when dogs need to cool down or when driving around pedestrians or if the driver is on foot and out of the sulky/wagon.
Go to the car: You’ll never be lost again once your dog learns this one.
This way: Go in this direction.
Work hard: Dig in, pull harder.
